Video Contest
OFFICIAL RULES AND SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
CONTEST BEGINS SEPTEMBER 6, 2011

GOAL OF THE CONTEST – To develop a video, from a student’s perspective for students, that would increase awareness and educate young people on the workplace readiness skills employers are seeking when hiring for high demand careers (healthcare, hospitality, construction, or advanced technologies/manufacturing) on the Greater Peninsula.
WHO MAY PARTICIPATE – Any high school student or team of students residing in Gloucester, Hampton, James City County, Newport News, Poquoson, Williamsburg or York, Virginia, may submit an entry.
VIDEO MUST INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS:
- The video must highlight at least seven of the 21 Virginia Workplace Readiness Skills necessary for a chosen Career Pathway (http://www.cteresource.org/attachments/wrs2010.pdf).
- Select one of the following high demand industries: healthcare, hospitality, construction, or advanced technologies/manufacturing. Based on your selection:
- Highlight a Career Pathway within the chosen industry(s).
- Select a specific occupation(s) within the Career Pathway, such as Nursing, Electrician, etc.
- Describe the work environment within the chosen occupation(s).
- Discuss education and skill requirements needed for the occupation(s).
- Highlight the career opportunities to include supporting data and earning potential within the chosen occupation(s) and other items necessary to attract students to the industry.
- Interview an employer or employee in the chosen occupation(s).
PRIZES:
Top three winners will receive:
1. $1,250
2. $750
3. $250
Odds of willing a prize depend on the number and quality of eligible entries received.
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
- Video should be three to seven minutes in length
- Videos must be submitted as a final product with any required narration/music integrated into the product.
- Videos must be compatible to be viewed on a computer or DVD player, without Codex plug-ins
- All videos must adhere to copyright and intellectual property laws.
- Story Board must also accompany the video submission.
- Entries must be received by 5:00 p.m., February 29, 2012, at the following address:

Late entries will NOT be accepted….no exceptions.
CONTEST JUDGING
- A panel of business leaders and students will judge all entries based on the following requirements and weight:
- Does the Video Contain all the Stated Requirements – 40 points
- Accuracy of Information – 40 points
- Creativity – 15 points
- Story Board and Planning – 5 points
- The panel reserves the right to award prizes or not award prizes as they see fit.
- The judges reserve the right to reject any and all entries deemed objectionable for any reason they choose (ex. profanity, inappropriate dress, copyright infringement, reference to unsuitable content or activity, etc.).
ANNOUNCEMENT AND PRESENTATION OF WINNERS
- Top three entries will be displayed at the Youth Career Expo 2012.
- Final results will be announced by May 31, 2012 at a public function.
- Winning entry may be shown on various media outlets and websites.
