A proud partner with the Green Jobs Alliance
The Peninsula Council for Workforce Development is a proud partner in the Green Jobs Alliance’s Weatherization Assistance Program grant.
The 2-year grant, awarded and led by the Green Jobs Alliance, includes the following partners Thomas Nelson Community College, The STOP Organization, Urban League of Hampton Roads, IBEW/LIUNA, Peninsula Council for Workforce Development, Office of Human Affairs, SENCON, and the Environmental Career Center.
The purpose of the grant is to train and employ 410 unemployed, underemployed and disadvantaged constituencies in energy auditing, energy efficiency and weatherization skills. These trainees will go to work for the Weatherization Assistance Programs of the Community Action Agencies. With experience they will be able to find work with contractors in the market-rate Better Buildings program.
The Green Jobs Alliance was established in direct response to the Green Jobs Act. With millions of Americans out of work, the Alliance has established a blueprint for an education, training and job placement infrastructure that will create thousands of Clean Energy jobs in our economy, help our citizens become more energy efficient, and protect our environment—all at the same time.
