Interested in a career in the Construction Industry?  Looking for a way to make your construction company more competitive? Recruiting, developing and retaining talent at every level of the construction industry just got easier.  The Peninsula Construction Academy is a cooperative effort between construction executives, New Horizons Regional Education Centers, Thomas Nelson Community College, and the Peninsula Council for Workforce Development to recruit, develop and retain skilled and capable human resources that can lead the industry to a robust and profitable future.

About the Academy... Information about the academy's vision, mission and team. If you are investigating whether a career in construction makes sense for you, access the KnowHowVa links and explore its opportunities.

 

High School Technical Training... Training programs for juniors and seniors leading to rewarding careers in the construction industry. Courses cover Carpentry, HVAC, Digital Cabling and Electricity and Welding. Review course listings, view available certificates and request enrollment information.

 

Skill Certificate Training... are skills training programs conducted during the summer to prepare those with GED and High School Diplomas for an entry level position in the construction industry. Skills training programs include OSHA Certification, Workplace Skills, and a selection of any three of the following: Carpentry, Electrical, Plumbing, Masonry or Concrete Finishing.

 

Apprenticeship Training... Apprenticeship Training is for individuals employed in the construction industry seeking to achieve journeyman or licensure status. Individuals are enrolled with the Department of Labor and Industry and frequently receive employer financial assistance. 

Specialized Skill Training can help industry tradesmen improve their knowledge and capabilities in specific areas  

Specialized Skill Training... The Academy offers skill training through a series of individual classes designed specifically for those who have basic construction-related knowledge, but need to improve their skills in one or a few skill areas.

   

Leadership Pathway... The Leadership Pathway provides individuals who have construction-related knowledge, skills and experience with advanced leadership, supervision and management training that prepares you for middle and senior management.

   

Corporate Participation and Sponsorship... The Academy has been developed on a cooperative basis with local construction industry executives.  The Academy seeks out local businesses to participate by sponsoring promising employees in the Academy's programs, or contributing to scholarships for entry level employees who are just beginning a career in construction
